Long, long ago the great wurm [[Veeshan]] found the barren world of Norrath. She marked the lifeless void with her claw as a warning to all other deities that it now belonged to her. Her claws fell upon the continent of Velious marking the '''Western Wastes''' with two great gorges the dragons hold sacred.

== Dangers ==

*Virtually all the monsters here are dragons or dragonkin, and are very powerful. If you are not allied with [[Claws of Veeshan]] this zone can be very dangerous without a group. Even if you are allied with [[Claws of Veeshan]], you should stay invisible, because there are monsters here that will attack anyone.

*Certain mobs will attack anyone regardless of faction and certain dragons that are on separate faction from [[Claws of Veeshan]] so make sure to con them first.

*Many of the creatures in this zone may run very fast. Wolves run at SoW speed. Wyverns (unlike the wyverns in [[Cobalt Scar]]) and Rhinos run at about JBoots speed.

*Pathing in this zone is astonishingly bad for an outdoor zone, mobs tend to warp and start summoning.

*Chain aggro occurs very frequently, It is very easy to get mobbed by monsters when you least expect it.

*A form of levitate is greatly recommended to not fall off one of the various high hills or cliffs.

== Benefits ==

*Most of the Dragons drop [[Dragon Talismans]], giving +4 to +7 to all stats and saves.

*Many of these mobs drop 50+ Kunark/Velious spells.

== Traveling To and From Western Wastes ==

*The Western Wastes can be reached by passing through [[Siren's Grotto]].

*There are 2 zones that branch off of the Western Wastes. The first is a '''one-way entrance''' to the [[Temple of Veeshan]] located at +700, +700. The second is the entrance to [[Dragon Necropolis]] located at -2800, +380.
