Project 1999 and the Titanium Client

New page

Basics
In classic EverQuest characters had three levels of vision: normal, Infravision, and Ultravision. Some races started with superior vision, and this was considered a meaningful racial feature by the games developers. There were numerous spells and items which granted characters of other races improved vision.

In addition, classic EverQuest also includes a large number of light source items. These items had 15 different degrees of illumination, which radiated from the character wearing /wielding them.

Project 1999 and the Titanium Client
The way lighting worked in EverQuest changed over time, and by the time the Titanium client came out the game was ... well a different game. The developers wanted everyone to be able to see well, and so vision levels/lighting had a much more muted impact in the Titanium Client.

Because of this, and because Project 1999 used the Titanium client, for a long time vision/lighting didn't matter much on Project 1999. However, in anticipation of Green, the hard-working P99 volunteers have started finding ways to work around the Titanium Client limitations, to make lighting matter in a more classic way.

As a result, Project 1999 players should expect ... as with many things ... a "close to, but not perfectly accurate" lighting/vision mechanics on both Blue and Green.
