I completed the quest ''without'' the fire giant toes. I accidentally hit Trade too soon, and as I began to remind myself that I could still complete the quest, I noticed the yellow text and the Torch was on my cursor.

This is possible if someone else handed in the toes of course, and I guess that must be what happened, but it's very odd. Maybe someone else was multi questing, but there was no one else in the zone, and no one showed up in the next 10 minutes.
