Try to set up her own little city. . . right in the mountains, so she did.
All the terrain of the Lavastorm Mountains itself couldn’t halt the advance of the angry King.
- Archpriest Del`Maque

Najena is the ancient home of a twisted dark elf magician named Najena, who carved out this hole in the hidden areas of the Lavastorm Mountains in which to carry out her experiments, as well as those of her allies. The undead walk the halls as if it is home. Various keys are used throughout this zone. Respawn is 19 minutes for most mobs.

Basic Zone Information
The front rooms are packed with skeletons, with typically 2-3 of them of various types lying on the floor of any given room. Added to this are aggressive elementals and ogre guards, all of whom will attack on sight. Further in the dungeon are Dark Elf and Goblin magicians, Dark Elf necromancers, as well as undead frogluks, giant black widows, and tentacle terrors.

For adventurers in the lower level ranges listed above (below 17th level or so), traveling in a group should be the rule, as simply walking in a room can result in 4+ creatures jumping you at once, and hunting in the front rooms should provide enough excitement. Be especially wary of Mist Elementals as they cast invisibility on themselves several seconds after spawning.

Advanced Zone Information
For higher level adventurers or groups, the zone is much more interesting than trying to fight off swarms of skeletons. There are several areas of interest.

In the caves behind Najena's room there are two camps of goblins and a few spider spawns. The southern goblin camp consists of 3 goblin spawns while the northern goblin camp consists of 5 goblin spawns, and the goblins can be either level 18ish warriors or level 18ish magicians. The magicians all summon elementals and cast a DS on anything nearby and occasionally drop mage focus quest items. A minotaur can also spawn at the goblin camps. There are 4 individual spiders that spawn back near the goblin camps also, one of which is the placeholder for the Widowmistress.

On the way there, you will find a couple lower level magicians guarding the entrance to the dungeon proper, and further east past the entrance to the caves you will find the crystal room with 3 more (higher level) magicians for hunting mage focus quest items.

There is also a prison area, which the intrepid explorer can find himself trapped in by falling through one of two pit traps located in the upper level. There is a High Elf damsel in distress here, as well as an injured halfling who won't talk to anyone, but, as mentioned above, will rush to the aid of his ogre guard for no apparent reason. At the end of the prison area you will find another room with 3 magicians as well as Rathyl's room.

Keys
To access key parts of the dungeon there is a whole key system. Various creatures and NPC's carry the keys to access other areas within the lair. I will use the keys to describe how to move through the zone.

Prison Key: Guard's Keyring
Although not part of the sequence, the ogre guards and Moosh carry , which will give you access to the prison cells. One note on Moosh: attacking him in the prison itself will make an injured halfling join in against you, although when you kill him you take hits with all the Rivervale factions. This is especially a pain because Moosh will stupidly attack people way above his level, so even hanging out in there is a bad idea for reasons of faction.

Key #1: Dull Bone Key
The first monster in the key sequence is BoneCracker. BoneCracker is an approximately level 25 undead froglok who lives Najena with two lovely dark elf necromancers. He also drops the and occasionally, and he himself spawns every 20 minutes. He gives you the

Key #2: Shiny Metal Key
The guard captain must then be killed to get the . These first two keys are the only keys that aren't No Rent (i.e. they won't disappear when you log), so hang onto them.

Key #3: Bloodstained Key
The is then used to open the cell outside of Rathyl's room. The is then used to access Rathyl's area, where you can fight Rathyl (sometimes there is a magician PH). Note you need both keys to get to Rathyl or be small enough to fit through the bars.

Killing him will give you access to the for Drelzna's room, as well as possibly the or . He then reincarnates (as Rathyl reincarnate) and sometimes has the as loot.

Key #4: Golden Crescent Key
Then, you can access Drelzna's room (possible Necromancer PH), who is slightly higher level, and used to spawn the Journeyman Boots (but not as of ? era). Now you can get the Ashenwood Short Spear there.

Getting the from Drelzna will allow you to access the room with Najena herself, who is about 29th level or so and has several high level protectors. She drops the and the .

Traveling To and From
The entrance to Najena lies in the southeastern corner of the Lavastorm Mountains. It is impossible to miss, as it consists of a huge set of double doors, with one blown off its hinges from some unknown force within.

If you attempt to enter the zone but are too low-level (<= 4), you will be placed near the the Nektulos Forest zone line and receive the message "You are not yet experienced enough to pass through an inter-planar portal".

Elemental Farming Guide
There are sixteen locations in Najena where elementals spawn (not counting Najena's PH). Three different types of elementals may spawn at these spots; Earth, Mist, and Fire. Not all spots may spawn all types, there seems to be three different options. A few spots will only spawn Earth Elementals, other spots will either spawn Earth or Mist, and two spots will either spawn Earth or Fire. The rate seems to be about 50/50 on the spots that can spawn different elementals. This means that Earth Elementals are by far the most common spawn, followed by Mist Elementals, finishing with Fire Elementals being the least common.

If you're in Najena looking for drops from certain elementals, then you can expect to get those drops in proportion to how common the elementals spawn. Earth Elemental drops, such as Iron Oxide, Russet Oxide, and Drop of Mercury will stack up the fastest. Mist Elemental drops, such as Swirling Mist, will be less common, and Fire Elemental Drops, such as Lava Rock and Charcoal, will be fairly rare.

But how many of each can you get? A multi-hour (4+) farming session I recently undertook resulted in well over a stack of Drops of Mercury, about fifteen Swirling Mists, and a measly six Lava Rocks. Drops for Fine Plate dye components were similar (though I didn't bother picking them up), probably a stack plus of Iron and Russet Oxides, and only five or six Charcoals. I'd estimate that drop rates are about twenty to twenty-five percent for each individual Dye and Temper component on average.

If you're looking specifically for Lava Rocks, an alternative to Najena is Lavastorm Mountains. Fire Elementals spawn regularly there from certain spots, and camping these may yield more Lava Rocks per hour than in Najena. One such location is in the middle of a gas plume at the edge of a small lava pool (/loc -985, +115) directly north from the Lavastorm/Nektulos zoneline entrance. This spot will spawn a Fire Elemental every six minutes, and there are likely other points in the zone that do so as well.
